The Muster Roll

It is possible to search the Muster Roll by a soldiers’ last name or a portion of the last name. For example, if you are looking for "Smythe" and are unsure of the spelling, you may simply enter "Sm", click Go!, and all entries with a last name beginning with "Sm" will be displayed. A name search may also be combined with a state or regiment to refine the search. If nothing is displayed after executing a search, there are no entries that meet the search criteria.

You can get a list of all (*) soldiers in a given regiment or from a given state by leaving the last name field blank, and selecting a value from the state or regiment pulldowns.

* Note: Only the first 1000 matches will be returned for any query.

Disclaimer: Information found on the Valley Forge Muster Roll has been compiled from original muster rolls, payroll records, pensions, letters, orders and other primary documents of the Revolutionary War. However, many valuable records have been lost over time, and therefore our Muster Roll will never be considered complete.

If you have information that may add to what is listed on the roll, please contact us. We encourage and value any input.

Support the Muster Roll Project: This project, a fully volunteer operation, needs your support so that all of the soldiers that encamped at Valley Forge will be remembered well into our shared future. We welcome your support to maintain the Muster Roll as a free service so that everyone can discover or add to the legacy of the brave Americans at Valley Forge.

Yours in Service to our Shared Heritage,
The Valley Forge Park Alliance
